Title: Moving Forward Pdf A Story of Hope, Hard Work, and the Promise of America
“A useful roadmap for all of us about how to make a difference.” —David Axelrod
“Moving Forward will inspire you.” —Valerie Jarrett
An inspiring political memoir from Karine Jean-Pierre, Chief Public Affairs Officer for MoveOn, chronicling her path from New York’s Haitian community to working in the Obama White House, and offering a blueprint for anyone who wants to change the face of politics.
Most political origin stories have the same backbone. A bright young person starts reading the Washington Post in elementary school. She skips school to see a presidential candidate. In middle school she canvasses door-to-door. The story can be intimidating. It reinforces the feeling that politics is a closed system: if you weren’t participating in debate club, the Young Democrats and Model UN you have no chance.
Karine Jean-Pierre’s story breaks the mold. In Moving Forward, she tells how she got involved, showing how politics can be accessible to anyone, no matter their background. In today’s political climate, the need for all of us to participate has never been more crucial. This book is her call to arms for those who know that now is the time for us to act.
Why did the publishers lighten her skin on the cover? I like Karine Jean-Pierre. However, I am offended that the publishers thought it necessary to lighten her skin on the cover.Great if you're a fan of Karine Jean-Pierre, otherwise a bit light on substance Three and a half stars might be better. It's a well-written story detailing Jean-Pierre's career. She starts with her childhood as an immigrant born in Martinique, who arrived in the US from France with her Haitian parents at age five. If you're an openly gay woman of color who wants to get into politics, this is a great book for you! Inspirational for people who are not natural politicians but want to make a difference. I especially liked the section at the end on how to actively support fine journalism. A good counterpoint to Trump's hateful rhetoric on immigrants in general and Haiti in particular.Jean-Pierre's career as a political campaign organizer, professor, and TV personality representing MoveOn and other progressive causes is indeed amazing. I also enjoyed her description of a trip she took to Haiti to make a film on the Haitian diaspora. She was surprised at how much she felt like a foreigner there, and that she was treated as a foreigner by Haitians.Jean-Pierre is easy to like. If you like her, you'll like the book. If you're not already a fan of hers, it can seem a bit lightweight. Hopefully this will turn out be just the story of Jean-Pierre's early life and career, with many great things ahead.Powerful Story, Perfect for our Time Really inspirational and relatable story perfect for the times we live in. Karine Jean-Pierre’s personal journey really resonates with anyone who sees injustice and want to make an impact
